Who We Are
In the scripture there is a story told where Jesus meets a woman at a well, a well called Jacob’s Well. A life changing conversation was had that day, in spite of the many reasons this conversation should have never taken place.
This woman comes to the well at noon, the hottest part of the day, which would suggest that she was a social outcast, not wanting to run into anyone that day. As she approaches the well, Jesus asks her a question, a social “no-no” in his day, a Jewish Rabbi would never talk to a woman in public. We also know that this woman has had failed relationship after failed relationship. Finally, this woman was a Samaritan, and Jesus was Jewish, these are two races that had a long history of hatred for one another.
And yet Jesus breaks through the social, racial, and spiritual boundaries. Why? John 4:10 Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”
Jesus breaks through all these boundaries for one reason: to share the love of God with this broken woman.
I’m sure there are many reasons that would get in the way of you visiting our church community.
Some of the more common ones I hear:
“I haven’t been to church ever or at least in years, it would be obvious that I don’t know what is going on or that I belong.”
“I have been hurt by another church.”
“The sin in my life is too great, if I walk in the doors, I might be struck by lightning.”
I get it, and I know the courage it takes to walk in the doors of a new place. But I also know that the fact that you are reading this probably means God is working in your life. You don’t totally get it, but you know He is moving. I want you to know that we have been praying for you, maybe not by name, but we have been praying for God to move in the hearts of the people in this area and we are making every attempt to be good hosts, to provide you the kind of place, the kind of community that will fight through whatever barrier you are facing, all for one reason – that you may find your way back to God. That is our dream, that is why we exist. We pray that at Jacob’s Well you may meet the One who said, “I will give you living water and you will thirst no more.”
