Celebration Service – Renegade Joy Week 4
Joy in Suffering
Joy and pain can exist within the same space. That’s why Paul can say “always” and mean just that: “always”. Whatever suffering I am going through, how much I am suffering does not diminish my capacity for joy if it is the joy that is found in Christ: knowing Him, serving Him, relying on Him through prayer, and ultimately being raised with Him.

Celebration Service – Renegade Joy Week 3
Joy in Opposition
Joy is the deep satisfaction that comes from both what God has done for us and what God is doing through us as His servants. And the joy of serving God is something that never comes without setbacks and disappointments and sometimes flat out opposition. To have joy, we’ve got to be people who understand our lives as being about holding on to and persevering in that calling and mission for our lives in the face of opposition.

Joy in Temptation

Celebration Service – Renegade Joy Week 1
Joy in Humility
Joy doesn’t come from the things that our culture considers the basis of happiness. Joy comes from the experience of the humility and servanthood of Jesus for me and then living a life of humility and service in response to His humility and service on my behalf.

Renegade Joy – Series Begins May 24
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” –Philippians 4:4-7
God wants to help us all experience joy. Joy doesn’t come from the things that our culture says can make us happy. Joy is a very counter-cultural, renegade thing.
In this series we’ll help people experience and delve into the difference between happiness (a response to what is happening around us) and joy (a response to what is happening within us) and some of the key dynamics of living a more joy-filled life. The book of Philippians will be our Biblical guide to renegade joy. Philippians is known as one of the prison epistles, as Paul wrote it from Rome while awaiting trial. It’s called “The Epistle of Joy” and it’s written from prison awaiting trial that could result in death.
